Gee's Bend Quilt Kits from Purl Soho

I love this web site. All sorts of really nice stuff, inspiration, patterns materials and tutorials.
I think I may do my own version of this. I could probably pull these colors from my stash. I absolutely love this. Did I say that twice? O well.

I am still wondering how/why something that started out as organic is now being sold as a kit?

I actually like that quilt too. But I feel as though I would be cheapening it if I contributed to the mass production of it.

Sorry that was not supposed to be soap boxy.

hmm interesting thought, but doesn't all design begin as something organic? and therefore all kits necessarily derivative?

My sister went to the exhibition of the Gee's Bend Quilts in Denver. She just loved them so much. I bought the Lazy Gal kit and am making it for her, a non quilter (imagine that!). I feel honored to share this with her. It is the only way she could enjoy this quilt all the time. Repetition is the highest form of flattery. and, what fun I am having to watch it come to life.
