There may be another, brighter quilt inspired by this fabric. I am
thinking a 60 degree inklingo diamond star shape may be in the works.

My father told me that his grandmother, Minnie, used to make quilts. They were not art, he assured me, just made up of snippets of old clothes , so as not to waste fabric and used to keep warm. He remembers one, he says, all in grays and blacks and plaids. Not art, he says, not meant to be beautiful. Sounds like beauty to me. Maybe even art...

Wise words spoken.
Be patient... the right fabric is... somewhere.
I'm following the procces with interest.
:o)
i think you should put a drawing of one of your daughters in the middle. kind of like a silhouette. or your mother. or aunt. or you!
Have you tried looking at drapery or upholstery cottons? I found a pretty drapery cotton with a huge chintz in it once and used it as the centre for something (sheesh, I can't even remember what!).
The idea of a silhouette in the centre is fabulous too -- how Jane Austen!
I can see a multi-colored toile...
this looks great...
hmmm have to think about that center fabric
do you have a calico corners near you?
go check out their fabrics for draperies....
or even a store that carries Waverly fabrics a great bird fabric would look nice.
I do like the idea of your daughters silhouettes in the center though.
