My father told me that his grandmother, Minnie, used to
make quilts. They were not art, he assured me, just made up of
snippets of old clothes , so as not to waste fabric and used to keep
warm. He remembers one, he says, all in grays and blacks and plaids.
Not art, he says, not meant to be beautiful.
Sounds like beauty to me. Maybe even art...
being a sewer means I am always drawn to articles of dress, be they on a horse or human. The Met bookstore has shelves and shelves of books on fibre, fashion and costume. A TROVE!
I loved the Met when we were there last year. Someday I want to go to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. I've heard it has the most magnificent "fiber" collection in the world. Someday.
